Luxury Africa Holidays from India, by Bliss Travels

Planned and reviewed by Amisha Shetth, Founder of Bliss Travels
Last updated: 26 October 2026

African Wildlife Safari Luxury Experience
A private wildlife safari in Africa, combining untamed wilderness with understated luxury and expert local guiding.

Bliss Travels is a Mumbai-based luxury travel company founded in 2000. We design bespoke Africa holidays for Indian travellers, from private wildlife safaris in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania to gorilla trekking in Uganda, beach retreats in Mauritius and Seychelles, and cultural journeys through Egypt and Morocco.

Every itinerary is built around your interests, travel dates, preferred level of luxury and the people travelling with you. We plan the details that shape the experience: the location of each camp, the expertise of your guide, internal flights, time to rest and how each part of the journey connects.

A good fit for: Couples, families, multi-generational groups and travellers seeking a private, tailor-made African holiday rather than a fixed group departure.

Planning budget: Allow more than ₹5 lakh per person for a 7–8-day African holiday as an initial indicative starting price (not a fixed package rate). Your final quotation is confirmed individually based on your dates, itinerary, camps, transfers and travel preferences.

Which African holiday is right for you?

South Africa: a varied first African holiday

South Africa combines wildlife with sophisticated cities, coastal scenery and the Cape Winelands. You can pair a private safari in the Sabi Sands area with time in Cape Town and the vineyards around Franschhoek.

Our sample journey includes properties such as The Silo Hotel, Delaire Graff Estate, Singita Ebony Lodge and Londolozi Private Granite Suites as illustrative options within the itinerary. Final property selection depends on your dates, preferences and availability.

South Africa is particularly appealing if your group wants more than game drives. The journey can combine wildlife, food, scenery, history and time to relax without making the entire holiday safari-focused.

Botswana: an ultra-premium safari

Botswana is a strong choice for travellers who value remote wilderness, exclusive safari settings and time immersed in nature. The Okavango Delta offers water-based experiences such as mokoro excursions, while other regions offer game drives and opportunities to explore contrasting landscapes.

Bliss Travels’ published Botswana journey includes properties such as Jao Camp, Mombo Camp, Jack’s Camp, Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge and Chobe Game Lodge. These are examples from the existing itinerary, not a promise that every property will be used or available for your trip.

Botswana is an ultra-premium option. Remote camps, light-aircraft transfers, conservation and park fees, and the season all influence the budget.

Kenya: the Maasai Mara and classic safari landscapes

Kenya is known for its open savannah, big cats and the Great Migration, whose timing and location change through the year. A journey can combine a conservancy stay with time in the Maasai Mara, with the itinerary shaped around your travel dates and wildlife priorities.

The existing Bliss itinerary features Angama Mara and Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp as possible stays. A coastal extension can also be considered when it fits the trip and flight schedule.

Tanzania: the Serengeti and Ngorongoro

Tanzania is a compelling choice for travellers whose priorities are wildlife, dramatic landscapes and the migration cycle. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater can form the core of a journey, with the sequence adjusted to the season.

Bliss Travels’ published itinerary includes Elewana Tarangire Treetops, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Singita Faru Faru Lodge, Singita Sasakwa Lodge and Sayari Camp as examples of properties featured in the itinerary.

Uganda: gorilla trekking and forest wildlife

Uganda offers a different experience from the classic savannah safari. Gorilla trekking is the major draw for many travellers, and a wider itinerary can include chimpanzee tracking and other wildlife experiences.

Gorilla permits, physical requirements, the minimum age for tracking and the availability of suitable accommodation need to be checked before dates are finalised. Uganda Wildlife Authority guidance sets the minimum age for gorilla tracking at 15.

Mauritius and Seychelles: finish with the Indian Ocean

A beach extension can provide a slower final chapter after a wildlife-focused trip. Mauritius combines beaches and lagoons with inland scenery and resort activities. Seychelles offers distinctive granite coastlines, island stays and marine experiences.

Choose the island based on the kind of break you want, the number of nights available and the additional flights required. A beach extension is not automatically the best option for every safari; the route should make sense for your dates and pace.

Egypt and Morocco: culture, history and architecture

Not every African holiday needs to centre on wildlife. Egypt offers ancient monuments and Nile journeys, while Morocco combines historic cities, architecture, markets, mountain landscapes and desert experiences.

These destinations work well as culture-led holidays in their own right. They should be planned separately from a safari unless a multi-country itinerary makes practical sense for your available time and flights.

What makes a luxury safari work?

A memorable safari is not simply a matter of choosing the most expensive camp. The location, guiding, activities and transitions between properties all shape the experience.

When planning your itinerary, we consider:

  • Camp location: Where a property sits in relation to wildlife areas, habitats and activities.
  • Guiding: The experience and approach of the guides, matched to your interests.
  • Vehicle arrangements: Whether a private vehicle is available and appropriate for your itinerary.
  • Season: Wildlife movement, weather, road or airstrip conditions and the experience you want.
  • Travel between camps: The time required for road transfers or light-aircraft flights, including luggage restrictions.
  • Daily pace: A balance between early starts, activities, meals and rest.

Our approach is to choose the combination that best suits your trip rather than selecting a country or camp on reputation alone.

Sample African journeys

The following examples show how an itinerary might be structured. They are starting points for discussion, not fixed packages. Property availability, seasonal conditions and your preferences will determine the final plan.

1. South Africa: Cape Town, Winelands and safari

Suggested duration: 10 days

  • Days 1–3: Cape Town. Settle in after your international flight, explore the city and peninsula, and allow time for relaxed meals and coastal scenery.
  • Days 4–5: Cape Winelands. Stay around Franschhoek or Stellenbosch for vineyard landscapes, food and downtime. The existing Bliss itinerary includes Delaire Graff Estate and Babylonstoren as illustrative property options.
  • Days 6–9: Private safari. Continue to the Sabi Sands area for game drives and wildlife viewing. Singita Ebony Lodge and Londolozi Private Granite Suites are among the properties named in the published itinerary.
  • Day 10: Departure. Connect to your onward international flight, allowing for the actual transfer and flight schedule.

Budget: More than ₹5 lakh per person is an initial planning threshold for a 7–8-day African holiday, not a confirmed quote for this 10-day itinerary. A reliable estimate requires your dates, rooming, selected properties and inclusions.

View the South Africa itinerary

2. Botswana: an ultra-premium wilderness journey

Suggested duration: 7 days, depending on flight connections and camp selection

  • Day 1: Arrival and connection to the Okavango Delta. Allow for the international arrival and onward light-aircraft transfer.
  • Days 2–3: Okavango Delta. Plan water-based activities and game viewing, with the exact mix determined by the camp and seasonal conditions. Jao Camp is named in the existing Bliss Botswana itinerary.
  • Days 4–5: Moremi area. Continue by light aircraft for further wildlife viewing. Mombo Camp appears in the published sample journey.
  • Day 6: A final safari experience. Use this time for game drives or other activities offered at the selected camp.
  • Day 7: Departure. Connect to the departure airport and onward flights.

Illustrative budget: A 7-day ultra-premium Botswana trip for 3–4 travellers can exceed ₹50 lakh for the group. This is an example planning anchor, not a fixed package price. The final amount depends on the season, camps, charter flights, room arrangements and inclusions.

Botswana rewards careful planning, particularly because its remote camps and flight connections influence both cost and the time available for activities.

Explore the Botswana journey

3. Kenya: Laikipia and the Maasai Mara

Suggested duration: Around 10 days

  • Day 1: Nairobi. Arrive and rest after your international journey.
  • Days 2–3: Mount Kenya region. Enjoy a slower introduction with nature-based activities.
  • Days 4–5: Laikipia. Explore a private conservancy setting and its wildlife experiences.
  • Days 6–8: Maasai Mara. Spend time on game drives, with the Great Migration as a possible focus when the seasonal timing aligns.
  • Days 9–10: Departure or a suitable extension. The final routing depends on your international flights and whether you want to add another region.

The published Bliss itinerary names Angama Mara and Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp as possible Maasai Mara stays.

Budget: A destination-specific range requires the travel dates, camp category, internal flights and rooming details. The general Africa planning threshold is not a quote for this itinerary.

View the Kenya itinerary

4. Tanzania: Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti

Suggested duration: 8–11 days, depending on the route and season

  • Days 1–2: Tarangire. Begin with wildlife viewing and time to settle into the safari rhythm.
  • Days 3–4: Ngorongoro. Explore the conservation area and plan a crater safari.
  • Days 5–8: Serengeti. Focus the itinerary around the region and migration period most suitable for your dates.
  • Remaining days: Departure or extension. Allow enough time for internal transfers and the international journey home.

The existing Bliss itinerary includes Elewana Tarangire Treetops, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Singita Faru Faru Lodge, Singita Sasakwa Lodge and Sayari Camp as illustrative property options.

Budget: Final pricing depends on season, camp selection, flights and the number of nights in each region. We will confirm a destination-specific estimate once those details are established.

Planning an African holiday from India

Flights and time zones

Flight routes, connections and journey times depend on the departure city, destination airport, airline schedules and the safari camps you choose. Remote safari areas often require additional domestic flights or light-aircraft transfers, so the international arrival and departure times should be checked against the complete itinerary.

For time planning, Nairobi is 2 hours 30 minutes behind India, while Johannesburg is 3 hours 30 minutes behind India. The difference can affect arrival-day plans and connections, so we allow realistic time to settle in after a long journey.

Visas and entry requirements

Entry rules depend on your passport, destination, travel history and routing. Electronic authorisations, visas and other entry formalities can change. Check the official destination authority before booking and again before departure.

Useful official starting points include:

Entry information checked: 26 October 2026. These links are starting points for checking requirements, not a guarantee of eligibility or approval. Confirm the current rules for every country on your route.

Yellow fever: check the whole route, including the return to India

Yellow fever requirements can depend on the countries you visit, where you transit, how long you remain in transit and the rules in force on your travel date. Do not assume that flying directly from India removes every requirement, particularly if your journey includes connections through other countries.

Before departure:

  • Check the current entry rules for each African destination.
  • Review whether your transit airport or itinerary triggers a certificate requirement.
  • Check India's requirements for travellers returning from the countries on your route.
  • Consult a qualified travel-health clinic about vaccination and other health precautions well before departure.

Official starting points:

Requirements can change. Verify the latest official guidance for the entire route, including the return journey to India, before finalising travel arrangements.

Malaria, gorilla permits and other health considerations

Health precautions differ by destination and region. Ask a qualified travel-health professional about malaria prevention, recommended vaccinations, personal medical needs and the timing of any medication.

For Uganda gorilla trekking, permits need advance planning, and the minimum age for gorilla tracking is 15 under Uganda Wildlife Authority guidance. Physical requirements and permit availability should be confirmed before a family itinerary is finalised.

Luggage on light aircraft

Some safari camps are reached by small aircraft with strict luggage weight and bag-size limits. The allowance varies by operator and aircraft. Confirm the exact rules for every flight in your itinerary before packing, and ask whether soft-sided luggage is required.

Food preferences and family travel

Tell us about vegetarian, Jain, allergy-related or other dietary requirements during the planning stage. We can communicate requests to the relevant properties, but specific arrangements must be confirmed with each provider.

For families, we also consider children's ages, camp restrictions, travel time between stops and the daily activity schedule. These details are particularly important for gorilla trekking and remote safari camps.

What does a luxury African holiday cost?

The budget depends on the destination, season, accommodation, number of travellers, internal flights and the experiences included. A private safari with remote camps and charter transfers is priced differently from a South Africa journey that combines city hotels, Winelands and a safari.

Initial planning guidance:

  • Africa holidays: Allow more than ₹5 lakh per person for a 7–8-day trip as an initial planning threshold. This is not a guaranteed starting rate for every itinerary.
  • Botswana: A 7-day ultra-premium journey for 3–4 travellers can exceed ₹50 lakh for the group. This is an illustrative budget anchor, not a fixed package price.
  • International flights: Confirm whether they are included in the proposal; do not assume they are.
  • Final quote: The travel dates, room-sharing arrangement, selected properties, transfers, permits, park fees and included activities determine the actual price.

We will confirm the inclusions and pricing basis in your personalised proposal, so you can compare itineraries on a like-for-like basis.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a luxury African holiday from India cost?
Allow more than ₹5 lakh per person for a 7–8-day trip as an initial planning threshold. Ultra-premium safaris can cost much more. Botswana, for example, can exceed ₹50 lakh for a 7-day trip for 3–4 travellers. The final price depends on the itinerary, season, properties, transfers and inclusions.
Which African country is best for a first safari?
South Africa is worth considering if you want to combine wildlife with Cape Town, the Winelands and coastal scenery. Kenya and Tanzania are strong options for classic savannah safaris. Botswana is suited to travellers seeking a more remote, ultra-premium wilderness experience. The right choice depends on your priorities and dates.
When is the best time to visit Africa?
There is no single best month for the entire continent. Safari seasons differ between countries and regions, and the Great Migration moves throughout the year. The best dates depend on your chosen destination and the experience you want.
Is Botswana worth the higher budget?
Botswana can be a good fit if your priorities are remote camps, private-concession experiences and an immersive wilderness journey. Its ultra-premium positioning means the budget needs to be considered early, especially when the itinerary includes several remote camps and charter flights.
Can we combine a safari with a beach holiday?
Yes. Mauritius or Seychelles can be considered for a beach extension, subject to suitable flight connections and your available time. The itinerary should be planned around the total journey rather than adding a destination simply to increase the number of stops.
Can we visit Africa with children or older parents?
Yes, but the itinerary needs to reflect ages, mobility, activity preferences and tolerance for early starts or long transfers. Some camps and activities have age restrictions. These should be checked before bookings are confirmed.
Do Indian travellers need a yellow fever certificate?
It depends on the destination, transit route and current entry rules. Requirements may also apply when returning to India. Check the official health and immigration guidance for every country on your route and consult a travel-health professional before departure.
How much luggage can we take on safari flights?
Light aircraft often have stricter baggage allowances than international flights. The exact weight, bag dimensions and luggage type depend on the operator and aircraft. We will need to check the rules for the flights included in your itinerary.
Do you organise group tours to Africa?
No. Bliss Travels specialises in tailor-made holidays rather than fixed-departure group tours. We plan the itinerary around your party, interests, travel dates and preferences.
How do we start planning our trip?
Tell us where you would like to go, your approximate travel dates, the number and ages of travellers, the experiences you value most and your budget range. We can then help shape a suitable route and discuss the options.
