Greece is a country in south eastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
Once you arrive in Athens you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to the hotel. The remainder day is free to rest. Overnight in Athens.
Enjoy a tour of Athens combining many of the city's principal modern and classical sights such as Constitution Square Syntagma square, the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National Library. At the Acropolis visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and finally the beautiful Parthenon. End the tour by visiting the new Acropolis Museum where all remaining treasures from the Parthenon and the Golden age of Greece are hosted! Your afternoon is free to explore the Plaka (old Athens section), Ermou Square for shopping and a taste of a Greek Souvlaki and Monastiraki flea market. Overnight in Athens
Transfer from hotel to the airport and fly to the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos where you are transferred to your hotel. Enjoy 3 days on this Cycladic Island known for its great night life, beautiful beaches of Elia, Paradise, Super Paradise, Psarou and the town’s Cycladic architecture. Walk through the narrow alleyways in Mykonos town and visit beautiful churches and the famous windmills. Take an optional cruise tour to the island of Delos the sacred island of Apollo one of the most important historical and archaeological sites in Greece. Overnight in Mykonos
Board the hydrofoil or ferry boat from Mykonos to Santorini. Upon arrival at the pier, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy 3 days at this scenic volcanic island with its breath-taking views and white washed houses draped along the high cliffs of Santorini's dramatic "Caldera". Take postcard pictures while walking through the villages of Oia and Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli. Visit the red and black beaches and the numerous villages outside the Caldera such as Perissa, Perivolos and Pirgos. Visit any of the 12 volcanic wineries sampling a variety of whites and reds along with local cheeses and Santorini’s famous tomato paste. HIGHLIGHT: Sail on a luxurious catamaran ship with Captain Ted. A Greek/American (from New Jersey) who's been living in Santorini for a few years, now owning 3 beautiful catamaran ships and doing daily excursions to the Active Volcano & the Hot Springs. You can swim, snorkel and enjoy delicious gourmet meals on-board. Cooking classes could be arranged as well. We can offer this catamaran experience as a regular tour or a private tour! Crete is the largest island of Greece. A rich blend of mythology, archaeology and history, combined with the unparalleled beauty of the landscape, the people, and its traditions, make Crete one of the most seductive hideaways for today’s travellers. The remains of Minoan palaces such as Knossos Palace, Byzantine churches, the birthplace of God Zeus, Venetian buildings, beautiful beaches and the famous Mediterranean diet are a wonderful treat for you to explore the beautiful island of Crete. (See below for more details on Crete itinerary.) From Santorini board the hydrofoil to the island of Crete and spend extra nights. A minimum of 4 nights is recommended. The nights are split - 1 Night in Heraklion and 3 nights in either Western Crete or Eastern Crete. A car rental is the best way to explore the island.
Heraklion to either Western Crete or Eastern Crete
In the morning of Day 10 pickup your car rental and drive to nearby archaeological site of Knossos. Knossos Palace is one of the major must-see archaeological sites in Greece, presenting visitors with a rare glimpse into the Minoan civilization. It was known as the Labyrinth in Mythology. From there continue to either Western Crete or Eastern Crete.
Western Crete Chania Town/Harbour - Chania is an old Venetian town, one which will enchant almost everyone with its web of side-streets, crumbling masonry and magnificent harbor. Samaria Gorge - Take a 16km or 10-mile hike through the longest and most impressive of Europe’s limestone gorges-- also a magnificent example of Crete’s many gorges-- from the White Mountains down to the Libyan Sea. At the base of the gorge, you can enjoy a refreshing swim as well as lunch at one of the local tavernas. Rethymnon Town/Harbour - Another Venetian town about 1 ½ hours from Chania. This harbour town has an old aristocratic appearance with its buildings dating from the 16th century that feature arched doorways, stone staircases, Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman remains, and of course a beautiful Venetian harbour with narrow streets filled with tavernas and shops.
Eastern Crete Elounda : Elounda is the most famous cosmopolitan location not only in the island of Crete but also in the entire Aegean Sea much acclaimed for its outstanding establishments in a magnificent natural environment. Elounda is a famous resort place for royalty to celebrities, as it offers complete privacy and anonymity in exclusively luxurious rooms and suites. The lagoon of Elounda is shaped between the coast and a small peninsula of 7-8 km length that serves as a breakwater. During the summer, boats leave the harbour every hour, transporting visitors to the small isle of Spinaloga giving the chance to the passengers to stroll in a deserted leper colony with its Venetian Fortress. Elounda is a dream location for a luxurious relaxing holiday.
After Breakfast transfer to Airport for flight back home.
